I sure hope it gets into the Olympics; between this and women's: beach volleyball and diving and track and field and gymnastics, I should have plenty of eye candy for the next Olympics!

No. This should stay in the fitness centers not the Olympics. Softball has been eliminated and it should be brought back rather than adding pole dancing.

Jimbo-739526 you need to get a life, how disgusting of you. This world is made up of some people that do try to stay in shape and in the gym, why should this be introduced to the olympics? Pole dancing is thought of for strippers and why expose our kids and teens to more nasty stuff to see.

Ok, I've heard it all now. I'm a 42 year old woman that keeps herself in very good shape. I work out on a Gazelle (which is not easy) and requires all the muscles in your body if you are doing it right. Should that be an olympic too? Just what men need "More sexual events and shows on TV". I blame the dumb A$$ women that are all for this because they keep enabling men to be pigs by wanting this stuff to actually be part of the olympics. Give me a break. It is exercise and should stay behind the scenes. People crack me up. If these women are seeking that much attention, I suggest they get counseling and a man in their lives.

"It's not a typical thing for an LDS woman to do".  OK, that says it all for me - I vote NO for pole dancing as an Olympic sport.  Anything, and I mean ANYTHING that the crazie Mormons are involved in should not be an Olympic sport or, for that matter, anything else.

LDS....yeesh.  You people really creep me out.  And not, I'm not gay.  I just don't have a problem with allowing gay couples the RIGHT to marry.

I agree with Jim - they cast their weird judgement on other people, to the point of messing with another states laws. But pole dancing is fine? These people are crazies!!

Jim, I think her comment was pretty clear, she's participating in spite of her LDS upbringing, applying your logic, you should be in FAVOR of pole fitness as a sport, as it will tweak a few LDS minds.

We are on the same page re. Prop 8, by the way, they acted as intolerant meddlers sticking their noses into other peoples bedrooms.

Next thing you know someone will put football or badmitton and lawn mowing in the olympics along with butterfly dancing. If you think this is an important subject -- Get a life

Oh God, why does the media perpetuate this false outrage? Clearly some Internet petition will not get pole dancing into the Olympics. This thread is just here for people to rant and rave about how "they" are wrong for suggesting such an obviously silly thing.

This should not be on the front page of MSNBC. I should not be commenting on it.

Did you notice the shoes in the photo that accompanied the article?  Aren't the shoes similar to the shoes referenced in the murder of a preacher down south?  His wife shot him in the back, using those "humiliating" shoes as a defense, and the jury let her go.  Maybe the Utah team will recruit her as a coach or team manager.

That is easily the most ignorant thing I've read all day. By your nonsensical logic, you're basically saying that if a mass-murderer gets caught and is wearing jeans at the time, then everyone who wears jeans must be a mass-murderer. Maybe Levi's should recruit a bunch of mass-murderers for their next ad campaign... Please, infuse some sense into your head. You are clearly lacking.

On another note, the photo that accompanied the article was NOT of the girls at Soiree (if you took your time to read the captions), and even if it were, the shoes are worn because walking (or dancing) on a high heel increases the workout to the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles. The reason we wear those PARTICULAR shoes is because they are built to be much, much safer than dancing in a normal stiletto.

anyone who thinks real pole dancing isn't hard should try it and you'd realize how physically challenging it really is. i think it'd probably be ok if there were set uniforms to wear and all tricks, which is a possibility, but i think too many narrow minded people would be against it and they'd throw it out because of the moral pressures. not a bad idea, but people aren't ready for it yet.

All pole dancing will do is get the idiotic guys excited - as you can read from above.  WHY WHY WHY do these ridiculous people come from the US and not some other country? Geez, they make us all look like idiots.

Yes, all idiotic straight men with a pulse.  You are looking at a very large fan base.  This is sounding better all the time.

Lmasure, I will resist the  temptation of becoming offended by your comment due to the fact that you have the reading comprehension level of a third grader.  The last time I checked, neither Austrailia, nor the United Kingdom were located in the United States.  Thus, this would make them fellow idiots. Just accept the fact that no man, or woman for that matter, would desire to see you dance on any pole ....and get over yourself.

They eliminated softball because it does not have international following, while it  seems like Pole dancing has a global appeal. Seems like you are whining about your preferred marginal sport not being taken seriously, sad for you.

Quit exploiting your sexuality to get the attention that daddy didn't give you when you were little. If this is the kind of thing you have to do to get attention and boost your self-esteem, you've got some problems. What a joke this is. You want to prove you're athletic? Play a sport, do some gymnastics...erotic dancing is erotic dancing, however you want to label it.

I work out on a Gazelle everyday and that requires all the muscles in my body and I look hot too but you don't see me asking for the Gazelle to be an olympic sport. I have enough self confidence I don't have to be on TV to get attention. Grow up and seek counseling for your insecurities. This is the dumbest thing I ever heard of.

Fabric will slide right off the pole, causing injury. Skin grips the pole. Simple as that. Besides, they're not wearing g-strings. They're boy shorts. Get over it.

And not everyone wears the shoes. It's personal preference. As I stated earlier, the shoes greatly increase the workout your legs get by forcing you on your toes at all times. Whether they're thigh-high or not is personal preference.

                                                                      ...That's all.

All that this petition is seeking is the recognition that this IS a legitimate sport. That doesn't mean everyone in the world has to accept it... just so long as you are able to recognize it as such.
